Walnut Drive Utility Earthquake Recovery and Resilience Project Begins August 18

EUREKA, CA – The Humboldt Community Services District (HCSD) will begin construction on the Walnut Drive Utility Earthquake Recovery and Resilience Project on Monday, August 18, 2025. The grant-funded project, supported by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), will relocate critical sewer and water infrastructure away from slide-prone areas along Walnut Drive between Hurst Street and Northridge Road.

These improvements are part of HCSD’s ongoing commitment to enhancing system reliability and emergency preparedness in the event of a seismic event. By rerouting utilities away from unstable ground, the District is taking proactive steps to protect essential services and safeguard the community.

Construction Schedule and Traffic Impacts:

  • Start Date: August 18, 2025
  • Anticipated Completion: November 3, 2025
  • Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Traffic control measures will follow Humboldt County-approved plans, including single-lane closures managed by flaggers and intermittent full road closures with clearly marked detour routes.
  • Construction signage will be posted at least five days before work begins.

Any planned water or sewer service interruptions will be communicated to affected customers at least 48 hours in advance.

This project represents an important investment in the safety and reliability of our community’s water and sewer infrastructure. The District appreciates the public’s patience as we complete these vital improvements.”
